Stunning Views and Custom One Homes Brought Them to Highland Hills in Cottage Grove
Meeting Custom One for the First Time.
When Heather and Jason walked into a Custom One model home in Stonemill Farms in Woodbury, they insisted they were “just looking” and had no intention of building. Their older St. Paul home had been on the market for some time with no buyer prospects in sight, so buying a new home appeared to be a long way off.
After talking with Custom One’s New Home Specialist, Jeremiah Rygh that day, suddenly their dreams seemed within reach. “We loved the model immediately,” says Heather, “and Jeremiah completely sold us on the idea of working with a premium home builder.” So the couple proceeded cautiously.
Shopping for Land.
One of the concerns Heather and Jason had about building was finding the perfect home site. Under no obligation, Jeremiah took them around to several neighborhoods and showed them different land options. “The Lots they had available were amazing,” says Jason. “But we knew immediately this home site was right for us. Jeremiah made it possible for us to see what we wanted before we even knew about it.” The land they chose gives them an amazing panoramic view of a private, protected landscape.
Making the Final Decision.
Jason and Heather checked out other models and other builders and they began to move forward, but kept coming back to Custom One Homes and the Providence model. “We went back so many times,” says Heather. “And we went to so many models, but they just weren’t the right fit for us.”
In the end, Jeremiah became the final convincing factor. “We wanted a high quality home at an affordable price,” says Heather. “Jeremiah helped us justify our decision and assured us that we were making the best move possible. But the product really sells itself.”
The Custom One Team.
Heather and Jason were impressed with the entire Custom One team. Mike Rygh was great to work with and helped them put in a bonus room over the garage that was not the original plan. He even tracked down and installed a small window that Heather wanted to bring in some natural light.
Cheryl Mann, Custom One’s customer rep worked closely with the couple on schedules and product selections throughout the building process. “Cheryl and I talked on a daily basis,” says Heather. “She was on my speed-dial for seven months and beside us every step of the way.”
Heather also loved working with Amy Leferink, Custom One’s on-staff interior designer. “Amy was fantastic to work with,” adds Heather. “She has great ideas and understood the look I was going for. It’s so nice to have someone who understands the big picture. She was always there to guide us and lead us to make good choices. Amy is absolutely essential in the Custom One experience.” Jason agrees, “Working with Custom One Homes is like a well-orchestrated event.”
New Home Guarantee Program.
Custom One Homes’ Guarantee Program, which assured the sale of their existing home, allowed Jason and Heather to move ahead with their plans to build, making it stress free. “If we didn’t have the guarantee, we wouldn’t be where we are today,” says Jason. “We were very hesitant until Mike Rygh assured us that he would buy our St. Paul home.” To have someone have your back during a difficult time means so much,” adds Heather. “We didn’t have the ‘what if’ in the back of our minds.” Ultimately, their home sold before the new home was completed, which was the perfect scenario of all.
Their Favorite Things.
It’s difficult for Heather and Jason to pinpoint what they like best about their new home. When asked, they each name several favorites. “We love the lot, the play room, the kitchen and family room, the large closets, pantry, second floor laundry, the drop area off of the garage and of course our bonus room, which will be a work-out room or an office some day,” says Heather. And the list went on and on. “The flow of this house is so perfect,” adds Jason. “It’s perfect for everyday life. Entertaining is so much easier. Everything here has a purpose. 92% of the space is actually used because Custom One knows how people live every day.”
We didn’t even have to ask if Heather and Jason would recommend Custom One Homes to their friends. “We could talk forever about how great this experience was,” concludes Heather. “Even my mother recommends them to family and friends — and she built her home with another builder before we built ours.”

Custom One Homes Remodeling Delivers a Finished Lower Level in Highland Hills
I guess you could say living a “stone’s throw” away from Custom One Homes was the beginning of a great relationship between two young homeowners and Mike Rygh’s remodeling division. Here’s how it all began:
Arik and Nicole built a new home next door to an open home site owned by Custom One Homes in the Highland Hills community of Cottage Grove. Shortly after the open lot was mowed one day last fall, Arik noticed there was a golf ball-sized mark in his vinyl siding. After considering how it might have happened, he decided that a rock must have kicked up from the mower and dented his siding, so he put in a call to Custom One Homes and politely explained his theory. Mike Rygh returned the call and offered to repair the damage without question and, within a few weeks, the siding was restored to perfect condition without any further discussion — in fact, neither Arik nor Nicole knew it had been fixed.
Well it just so happened that the couple had begun the process of interviewing remodeling companies to finish their lower level at the time of the rock incident. “The way Custom One Homes responded to the phone call I made said a lot about their integrity, responsiveness and quality workmanship,” says Arik. “So I put in another call — this time to see if they did remodeling projects.”
To make a long story short, Custom One Homes was invited to share design ideas and provide bids on completing the project and ultimately won the contract. “We chose Custom One Homes because of the overall package,” says Arik. “Their ideas, the timeframe and the quality of their work are what sold us on them. And their price was competitive, too. When it came right down to it, the decision was pretty easy.”
Arik and Nicole were impressed that the wet bar, entertainment area, bathroom and workout room or future office matched the upper level of the home so well. “Mike delivered everything he promised,” says Arik. “He also said he’d have it done in four to five weeks, and he was right. The other companies we considered estimated it would take eight, nine and even ten weeks to get it done.”
Today, the newly remodeled lower level is used a lot and thoroughly enjoyed by Erik and Nicole along with their family and friends. And in the final analysis, that little rock made a great “impression” on these happy Cottage Grove homeowners.
